Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. With just 11 days to go before Christmas, holiday music is starting to seep into the late-night programming. On Thursday night, the slot was filled by She & Him — aka singing actress Zooey Deschanel and guitarist M. Ward — who brought The Christmas Song to The Late Late Show with James Corden. But honestly, the real stars of the night were Chloe x Halle, who wowed The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with their stunning harmonies of Down — not to mention their futuristic plastic duds. Similarly but in a totally different way, Kurt Vile didn’t disappoint with his suitably slackerish performance of Loading Zones on Jimmmy Kimmel Live. And as I predicted, Last Call With Carson Daly burned off the last of its Boygenius live segments when singer-guitarist Julien Baker delivered Appointments and All I Want at the Wiltern Theatre. What I didn’t know was that The National‘s Matt Berninger would join her for the latter song — which is definitely not about Christmas, FYI.
