Stacey Kay | New Type: Exclusive Video Premiere

The Toronto singer challenges pop-culture stereotypes in her latest single.

Stacey Kay wants to introduce you to the New Type with her latest video — premiering exclusively on Tinnitist.

The inspirational and empowering clip — the new single from the Toronto singer-songwriter’s 11 O’Clock Number album — confronts and challenges pop culture’s stereotypical, long-standing definitions of beauty.

“I’ve never been a fan of the saying, ‘It’s on the inside that counts’ because then that implies the outside doesn’t look attractive,” explains Kay. “It’s my goal to change the world’s mentality about what they think they are supposed to think is beautiful. I want to be the person to do that.

“Just because most people who are famous look the way they do doesn’t mean that it has to continue being like that. It’s 2018 and humans have made a lot of changes, so why not make a change about what we’ve been brainwashed to think is beautiful?”

Life has certainly been beautiful for Kay lately. After debuting on Season 10 of America’s Got Talent, advancing to the final rounds and receiving rave reviews from Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Mel B (Scary Spice), she has gone from one career highlight to another.

Her unique and powerful voice, paired with her machine-gun rapping style, has garnered her online videos millions of views — one clip that captured her spontaneously performing one of Busta Rhymes‘ fastest raps in a South Carolina Walgreens was shared all over the world. Her covers of hit songs have garnered the respect and recognition from the original artists including Meghan Trainor, Iggy Azalea, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Brown and Mystikal, who have either tweeted her videos or posted them on Facebook. Recently, Stacey was very excited to learn that one of her influences, Fergie, featured her in a Glamour Magazine video. In this video, Fergie analyzes Stacey singing one of her own songs, and Fergie then raves about Stacey’s vocal ability and charisma.
