Late-Night TV Music (Diversity Edition) | Nov. 13, 2018

Migos, Muse, Elle King, Jake Owen & Family of the Year add variety to the tube.

Diversity is always a good thing. And diversity is exactly what you got from Tuesday’s late-night TV music lineup, which veered wildly from proggy art-rock to down-home country and rap. Start at the end, with Migos‘ appearance as James Corden‘s latest Carpool Karaoke passengers (above). Also on last night’s episode of The Late Late Show: Elle King, swaggering through her latest single Baby Outlaw from her excellent sophomore album Shake the Spirit. Next up: British stadium-fillers Muse, who downsized to the stage of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (but added a horn section) to play the offbeat Pressure from their ’80s-inspired album Simulation Theory. Then there was country boy Jake Owen, who offered a well-balanced two-fer on Jimmy Kimmel Live with the upbeat Down to the Honky Tonk and the downtempo Made For You. Finally, speaking of double duty, L.A. indie-pop crew Family of the Year returned to the lineup of Last Call With Carson Daly to offer I’m the One and Mexico. Six of one, half a dozen of the other. See you tomorrow.
