Snow Patrol, KISS, boygenius and more help take up some Monday night slack.

Have you ever noticed how things just seem to work themselves out on their own sometimes? Case in point: Monday night’s talk shows, A couple of the big players didn’t have any musical guests. But as if by magic, some of their counterparts doubled (and even tripled) their contributions to take up the slack. The Late Late Show With James Corden was really firing on all cylinders: Along with hosting Snow Patrol for the piano-ballad What If This Is All The Love You Ever Get?, Corden harmonized along with them at rehearsal — and pulled out a clip of him clowning with KISS on Rock And Roll and Nite. He’s definitely the MVP of the evening. Late Night with Seth Meyers upped the ante in a different way, welcoming indie-supergroup boygenius — featuring singer-guitarists Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus — who performed Me & My Dog from their recent EP. Even Last Call With Carson Daly joined in, offering two artsy medleys from post-folk singer-violinist Odetta Hartman, who delivered Dreamcatchers/Misery and Old Rockhounds/Batonebo. The only one who didn’t get the memo: Carly Rae Jepsen, who ticked The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon‘s dance-pop box with her new single Party For One, which is about exactly what you think it’s about. Speaking of things working themselves out.
