Indie Roundup (Family Feud Edition) | Oct. 22, 2018

Everything is relative for these bands.

They say families that play together stay together. I don’t know about that. But I do know these two families sent me their latest videos and albums. So I’m passing them on to you. You’re welcome. Say hi to your mother for me.

Kelowna family band The Oot n’ Oots say they make music for kids of all ages. It also seems their zany, mischievous music is made BY kids of all ages. The lineup includes 11-year-old vocalist Ruth Cipes her dad Ezra (vocals, guitar) and uncles Ari (vocals, guitar), Gabe (vocals, bass), and Matthew (vocals, drums). Their latest video — for the song I Like It Saucy from their Electric Jellyfish Boogaloo album — truly has its kitsch in sync. Savour the silliness above.

Home is definitely where the art is for Ontario’s Ludgate (above). The band includes parents John and Sheila Ludgate, with sons Luke, Anthony and Shane Ludgate. (The boys also play in the alternative band Beautiful Nothing.) Their third album What the Camera Couldn’t See is a fittingly rootsy affair about the passage of time and the journey home. Settle in for the trip below:
