Indie Roundup | Six New Cuts To Sample Today

Caroline Rose, Lindi Ortega, Allen Stone & more make some fresh tracks.

Caroline Rose is on the move, Allen Stone comes around, Lindi Ortega ropes in Corb Lund, Shogun & The Sheets get pissy — and that’s not all you’ll find in today’s roundup. So get scrolling already:

1 | Nashville singer-songwriter Caroline Rose heads to Topeka in search of the American Dream in the homey video for her poppy new single Jeannie Becomes A Mom. SEZ THE PRESS RELEASE:Jeannie was my first foray into making really fun, sort of weird pop music. I wrote the whole song, including the programmed drums, on a little digital synthesizer called the OP-1. It felt like a relief making something that still told a serious story but tasted like candy to my ears. It’s a direction I’m definitely going to keep exploring. The story, like life, is meant to be a kind of grotesque, whimsical tragi-comedy. This was especially fun for me because I get to play more of a voyeuristic role, which is how I feel in the narrative of the song itself.” Move in with her up top.

2 | What goes around comes around for Washington blue-eyed soul man Allen Stone in the new in-the-round video for his groovy, Aretha-inspired latest single Taste Of You. SEZ THE PRESS RELEASE: “I had the opportunity to play an Aretha Franklin tribute show at Carnegie Hall last year and I was privileged to sing Say A Little Prayer. What an iconic song! Getting to play that song in such an inspiring environment made me want to write a song just like. This was my attempt. My personal tribute. Love you Aretha.” Join the circle:

3 | Australian indie-rock crew Shogun and The Sheets join the singles scene with a new 7″ featuring the sprinting, scrappy Hold On Kid and the soulful slow-burner Pissing Blood, available digitally now with a vinyl release in November. SEZ THE PRESS RELEASE: “Riveting, downcast, charismatic, complex – Hold On Kid and Pissing Blood offer a glimpse of a band that refuses to be trapped by the past, and provide a new platform for one of the most celebrated icons of underground music in modern Australian music history. Grab something and hold on tight — both these tracks are massive:

4 | Lindi Ortega teams up with fellow Canadian roots icon Corb Lund for the romantic duet Lovers in Love. Originally released on Ortega’s Liberty Parkhill Sessions earlier this year, it returns set to a new lyric video. SEZ THE PRESS RELEASE: “The video is a timeless retro-western romance.” Giddy up:

5 | Vancouver’s We Are The City throw some shade on the downtempo Dark Horizons, the latest single from their fittingly titled album At Night. SEZ THE PRESS RELEASE: “The album is joyful and intentionally imperfect. Featuring a guest appearance from Canadian hip-hop star Shad (who sings here, rather than rapping) and an abundance of overlaying gossamer melodies with static-soaked experimentation, this is the sound of lightning in a bottle.” Catch it all here:

6 | D.C. electro-rockers Color Palette bring back the synth-pop sounds of the ’80s in their latest single Chelsea. SEZ THE PRESS RELEASE:Color Palette takes experiences like heartbreak and love, and together turns them into something mystical and inviting.” Pay a visit:
