Late-Night TV Music (Pre-Taped Edition) | Oct. 15, 2018

Eminem, Jim James & Mt. Joy do it live on tape for the talk shows.

Some fans believe live music is better. There wasn’t much for them on Monday’s late-night TV lineup. But for fans of Eminem, The Empire State Building and cinematic spectacle, it was a night to remember — the Detroit rapper took over the New York landmark to perform the superhero soundtrack cut Venom for Jimmy Kimmel Live on the host’s first night in the Big Apple. Granted, it was a pre-recorded appearance featuring helicopter shots, multiple sets, building trivia and cameos by Guillermo and Mr. Porter. But really, what else would you expect them to do? Shoot Eminem backstage doing an intimate version of an old Sly Stone song with a choir? That gig was already taken — by Jim James and The Resistance Revival Chorus, who covered Everyday People during their recent visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Jimmy’s away this week, so I guess they just posted this leftover to tide you over. Speaking of leftovers, here are two more pre-taped offerings: Philly folk-pop crew Mt. Joy’s Troubadour performances of Sheep and Dirty Love from Friday’s Last Call With Carson Daly. Different strokes for different folks, indeed.
