Indie Roundup | Four Songs to Ease You Into Your Weekend

Sample some soothing tunes from Madelline, Kaia Kater, Willian Ryan Key and Iaye.

Every day, I get press releases from indie bands and labels with new songs, albums and videos to hype. Here’s the latest batch:

1 | Connecticut singer-songwriter Madelline introduces herself with the bewitching video for her single Wish I Could See. SEZ THE PRESS RELEASE: “My debut single … blends in my theatrical background as the lyrics are grounded in truth, but are very character based. The entire video was shot in one take. We used my friend’s pet snake for the video. I was a little scared at first, but he was actually really cool. His name is Bodine.” Meet them both above.

2 | Toronto roots artist Kaia Kater pulls the pin and pitches the title track from her upcoming album Grenades — but don’t fear; it’s not nearly as dangerous as it seems. SEZ THE PRESS RELEASE: “Kater draws on her diverse influences in Quebec, the Caribbean, and Appalachia, bringing them together to present an exciting musical direction.” Throw yourself on this one:

3 | Former Yellowcard frontman William Ryan Key offers up a lyric video for his new single Downtown (Up North) from his upcoming EP Virtue, due Nov. 26. SEZ THE PRESS RELEASE: “Lyrically hearkening the strains of new romantic longing, Downtown (Up North) is a song enraptured in emotion and intimacy.” Get up-close and personal:

4 | Moody Montreal multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Iaye shares her haunting (albeit typographically annoying) new single haventhadlove. SEZ THE PRESS RELEASE: “haventhadlove, the next single from laye’s reserve of emotional personas, draws the listener into the affecting real-life drama of navigating through desire and want.” seewhatyouthinkbelow:
