Love ’em or loathe ’em, you can't escape K-pop superstars BTS.

OMG! BTS! If you’re a teenage girl, it doesn’t get any better. On the other hand, if you’re the parent of a teenage girl, it doesn’t get any worse. Either way, you can’t escape the fact that the Bangtan Boys took over The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday. And when the K-pop superstars weren’t chatting or playing one of Fallon’s goofy games, they were flinging themselves around the stage and belting out their energized song Idol (above). Since one round of intense shrieking is never enough, there’s also a bonus performance of their speedy little electro track I’m Fine (below). They weren’t the only game in town — but you’d never know it from the explosive online reaction to their appearance. It almost makes you feel sorry for the rest of Tuesday’s late-night music lineup. On any other night, Tyga and Offset’s swaggering performance of the bumptious Taste on Jimmy Kimmel Live — augmented by some nimble female dancers — would have grabbed plenty of eyeballs. Ditto Nas’s new cut Adam & Eve, which he presented on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, with some capable assistance from bandleader Jon Batiste. Meanwhile, over on Late Night with Seth Meyers, indie-rockers Interpol might have turned heads by turning down the colour for their typically dark number If You Really Love Nothing. And British singer-songwriter Ben Howard surely would have earned some praise for his gauzy, electronica-flecked version of There’s Your Man on The Late Late Show with James Corden. But ultimately, nothing could outshine the boys of BTS. Not even the wonderfully named British electro-pop duo Let’s Eat Grandma, who did double duty on Last Call With Carson Daly, performing It’s Not Just Me and Falling Into Me. Sigh.
