Darrelle London | Sheep: Exclusive Video Premiere!

The Toronto singer-songwriter shares the first single from her new lullaby album Sing to the Moon.

Toronto singer-songwriter Darrelle London is diving into the world of Kindie (Kid-Indie) with the lullaby album Sing to the Moon — and premiering the lyric video for her new single Sheep exclusively on Tinnitist!

“Sheep is a fun, dreamy song about what happens when counting sheep backfires because the sheep are too rambunctious!” says London, who never expected to make children’s music — until she became a mom.

“Three years ago, I gave birth to my little baby Thomas,” she explains. “When I first saw his face, my heart exploded, and my whole world shifted. It was the most profound moment of my life. He was the inspiration for every song on this record, so it seems fitting to release it the week of his birthday.

“This album came out of the many hours I’ve spent singing my baby to sleep … When you’re a new parent, sleep is such a scarcity that it becomes a central focus on your life. Getting your baby to sleep, so that you can get some sleep, is so important. So, for a songwriter, a lullaby album was a natural outcome from that first year with a baby.”

Sing to the Moon, out Oct. 9, is a whimsical journey towards bedtime, mixing original tunes and old classics with a twist. “I was drawn to the timelessness and universality of traditional lullabies, but some of them seem to have the craziest messages!” London says. “I guess because I’m a songwriter, I started playing around with the lyrics and adding different parts. It was fun to flip them on their heads a little bit.”

London is no stranger to following her heart to unexpected places. After turning down law school to pursue music, she has spent a decade making her mark on the college and festival circuit across North America. Some highlights include playing at iconic venues such as Hollywood’s Troubadour Club and Nashville’s Bluebird Café, collaborating with artists such as Chantal Kreviazuk, being chosen by Sarah McLachlan to perform at Lilith Fair, and placing her music on TV shows and ad campaigns in the U.S. and South Korea.
